Start-up me:now gives free support to ex-armed forces business owners

me:now is the world’s first time-based marketing platform, and it has teamed with Veteran Owned UK to offer its premium service for free to ex-servicemen and women across the UK. Ex-military personnel with their own small business who are members of the Veteran Owned directory will now receive a free six-month subscription to me:now’s premium service. The premium tier usually costs £35pcm.

The offer is open to all present and future Veteran Owned UK members. Ex-service men and women who want to sign up should visit https://veteran-owned.uk/

The me:now app allows small businesses to advertise not just what they do, but *when* they’re free. That means they can reach new and existing customers who want their service, in the location they operate in, who want them at a particular time. me:now users can search for service providers (plumbers, hair salons, dog groomers, etc…) based on when they have availability, and it’s the first company in the world to offer time-based search across multiple industries. The creators hope to save time for everyone and help small business owners make more money by filling empty appointments.

me:now’s co-founder and CEO Barry Thompson served in the Royal Air Force, and believes there is a huge untapped potential in the veteran workforce, and wants to help ex-servicemen and women become more successful. Veteran Owned UK was set up by Scott Johnson, a former British Army Royal Engineer, to help support ex-military business owners by providing a directory of their services. It is now the largest of its kind in the UK. It was only natural for the two to work together.

Barry Thompson says: “Since the earliest days of me:now it has always been my ambition to offer the service for free to anyone who served in the Armed Forces. These are people who dedicated their lives to our country, and I know first-hand how hard it can be when they leave service. Equally, running your own small business is a battle of its own, and I want to do what I can to help veterans become as successful as possible.”

Scott Johnson says: “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and Veteran Owned businesses make up a small portion of that. Business communities don’t get the help they deserve – we want to change that for the Veteran Owned Business Community. Partnering with me:now means veteran business owners can spend more time doing what they’re best at.”

me:now is free for customers to use, while businesses have the option to sign up for the free tier which provides five adverts a month, or the premium tier, which provides 30 adverts per month. The service was built to be used by anyone, on any device, however the company also offers a managed service that can handle the entire process for business owners.

About me:now

The me:now app is available on Android and iOS and advertises businesses and their time.

Whether it’s a hairdresser, physiotherapist or even a dog groomer, the me:now app only shows businesses that say they’re available.

Customers can follow a favourite business and receive a phone notification when the business says it has a free slot.

Businesses list when they have a diary gap or cancellation. They can share this with anyone looking for their type of business and with their existing customers on Facebook or Twitter.
