The Military Times would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Scott Stevenson, a Senior Aircraftman (Technician), who died on Monday after suffering an injury in an RAF/Army rugby match the previous Friday.
Scott, 25 years old, was a fullback for the Royal Air Force Rugby League 1st team, and also played for the Boston Buccaneers Community Club.
RAF Marham has issued a note concerning Scott’s death:
“It is with deep regret that the Station Commander of Royal Air Force Marham confirms the death of Senior Aircraftman (Technician) Scott Stevenson. Scott was a very popular member of the Royal Air Force Marham community and a fullback for the Royal Air Force Rugby League 1st team. Scott will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
“Our thoughts remain with Scott’s family and we ask that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.”
In an earlier statement, when Scott was in hospital having sustained the head injury, the RAF Rugby League commented:
“RAF Rugby League 1st team Fullback, SAC Scott Stevenson was injured last night while putting on a performance that had him in contention for man of the match in the inter services game against the Army.”
It was a terrific last match for Scott who started playing the game when he was eight.
His family have issued a statement:
“It is important to us that everyone knows Scott suffered no pain, stress or discomfort. Scott loved his job, loved life, and loved his rugby and we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes and the camaraderie shown by the Rugby League world. We are genuinely touched by just how many peoples’ lives Scott influenced and how much he meant to so many.”
